Keep it clean and pristine. 

Doing someone's hair is a personal thing. You are in their personal space, washing their hair, making cuts, and doing various styles. When customers walk in, you want to greet them with a salon that is clean and sanitary, smells nice, and feels comfortable. Keep the hours in line with demands. 

A lot of hair salon owners make the mistake of only operating during regular business hours, which just does not fall in line with the schedule of a lot of prospective customers who have to stop in when they get a short window of free time. People will need to get their hair done at all times of the day, including on weekends and holidays. Therefore, if you can offer extended hours of operation, it is always going to be good for business, and it could be the reason why you land customers when other businesses don't.

If you do accept appointments, make sure you are timing them correctly so clients are not left waiting for long periods to be seen. If you accept walk-ins, make sure you employ enough stylists that you can keep wait times to a minimum. Customers left waiting may get up and go somewhere else or choose to go elsewhere the next time they need services, and that's definitely not what you want to happen.
